- I don't even blame Brian Kelly. How can you? It is the system. The system that the college football hiring process starts before bowl games even take place. It is easy to question Kelly about leaving Cincinnati before their BCS bowl game, but if he waited until after he may never have received an offer from Notre Dame in the first place. I am sure most coaches do not want to abandon their programs that they have built in their biggest game of the season but with coaches when your "hot" your "hot" and you need to take the best opportunity for yourself that exists. Because if you do not take that opportunity when your "hot" you may never get that same opportunity again.
- The system needs a change. Schools should not be able to talk to coaches until after the BCS championship game. Quite frankly I do not care if this affects recruiting. At the end of the day, schools should be able to count on their coaches for the whole season. It is horrible that in Cincinnati's biggest game in school history, they won't even have their head coach. Imagine what this would be like in the NFL. If a team made the playoffs and then suddenly in the AFC championship game didn't have their head coach anymore because he took another job. It sounds ridiculous but its the same thing.
- People will argue that coaches are dirty, greedy, and scumbags but what do you want from them? The system exists where if they don't take the job they could be missing out on so much for themselves and for their families. In the past, coaches have gotten hired to a new school and then stayed on with their old school for a bowl game. OK, I guess that works...but isn't that just an unnecessary and awkward distraction? I do not see why they don't just simply listen to me and move the hiring period back. It makes so much sense.
What do you think makes the most sense? Comment!
