The Fascination of Twitter

About six months ago I saw all of these celebrities on twitter so i figured, what the heck, I'll get one. After "tweeting," a few times I got bored of it and didn't really understand what the point of it was. However, since starting this blog, my brother Zac (Sticky) suggested that I get back into twitter to help promote my blog articles and also to use it for finding sports information. I did listen to him and I began following my twitter closely, still though I wasn't convinced. After a few weeks of tweeting, I can now say I am on my twitter grind. I love it.
If you are a sports fan, twitter gives you great information and a great way to talk to players directly. Not just no names either, pretty much all the big guys in sports are on twitter. As a young journalist with few opportunities to interview big name athletes, twitter has provided me with a great place to talk to players and get quotes. Sure it does not replace traditional journalism, but for me, it is a great resource. For those of you non twitter people, the way it works is you follow who ever you want. Then you receive their updates and you can reply to their comments, and they can do the same back at you. It is awesome to get an insight into what athletes are doing all the time. Players tweet before games, after practices, before bed, before surgery, and even during games. Maybe it goes to far sometimes but for sports fan twitter is cool because you can get quick interesting pieces of information fast. Many credited journalist and beat writers have accounts where you can ask questions and find out breaking news right as it happens.

This week I was able to tweet with previous chatterblog guests Ralph Vacchiano and Marcellus Wiley, as well as pro athletes Kerry Rhodes, and Kevin Durant. This was a thrill.

I asked Kerry about dealing with "haters," or people who think of him in a negative light and he had an interesting response: "just keep it moving lol." It is a simple and causal response but I agree that in the New York spotlight, when people hate, you better just move on or else this town just isn't for you.

Anyway i just thought it would be interesting to post about twitter, I love it, and am completely addicted. I think everyone, especially sports fans should check it out. And If you have one follow me @chatterblog! You can also see my most recent twitter posts on the right side of this blog page under the section "tweet tweet."
